Sedan or SUV, seats and bags

Reserving an SUV airport transfer in Salt Lake County for up to six people

Before you send a request for a ride to or from Salt Lake City International Airport, count two things: the people riding and the checked bags. Three riders with a few bags fit a sedan. Four, five or six riders, or a heap of suitcases, call for an SUV airport transfer in Salt Lake County for up to six people. The office names that car size when it asks one local car company for its written fare, so the price you see is for the car you will ride in.

Picking the car by headcount and luggage

A sedan seats three riders at most, with trunk room for a few bags. It suits a couple heading out for a long weekend, or one rider with a checked case and a carry-on. An SUV seats up to six and is the car to reserve when the group is larger or the luggage is heavy. The picture on this page shows an SUV of that size with its side door open and bags behind the second row.

Write the number of checked bags in the request, right beside the number of riders. If the seats would fit a sedan but the bags clearly would not, ask for the SUV and let the car company size the ride from your count.

Child seats, by kind and by who brings them

When children ride along, the request asks how many child seats you need and of which kind: rear-facing, forward-facing or booster. Give a count for each kind, even when it is one. The car company confirms in writing whether it brings the seats or you bring your own, so you know before the pickup time whether to carry them out to the curb. We ask about the seats and nothing about the children themselves.

A child in a seat still takes one of the places, so count every child when you weigh three places in a sedan against six in an SUV. A parent with two small children already fills a sedan, and a stroller or a stack of bags on top of that is a good reason to ask for the SUV instead.

Riders who need a ramp or lift

If someone in your group needs a vehicle with a ramp or a lift, ask for it in the request and say how many riders come along. The office passes that need to the local car company it asks for the fare, and the company confirms in writing whether it can send such a vehicle for your pickup time. Nothing is held for you until it does.

At the terminal, a reserved car sets riders down on the commercial lane on the ground level, as airport signs direct. Coming home, bags are on the second level, and the car picks you up on that same ground level lane, a short walk down from baggage claim. Add the flight number, so the company can plan the pickup around your landing.

How car size moves the fare in each band

The fare follows road miles from your corner to the terminal rather than the grid number on your street sign, and those miles fall into six bands. In every band the SUV starts above the sedan, by $30 to $45. These are starting figures, per car, each way:

  • Within 8 road miles: a sedan from $90 or an SUV from $120
  • Within 11 road miles: a sedan from $100 or an SUV from $130
  • Within 14 road miles: a sedan from $110 or an SUV from $145
  • Within 17 road miles: a sedan from $120 or an SUV from $160
  • Within 20 road miles: a sedan from $125 or an SUV from $165
  • Within 25 road miles: a sedan from $140 or an SUV from $185

Because the price is per car, six riders sharing one SUV pay a single fare. Sandy, at 9400 South and 700 East, falls in the band up to 20 road miles, so an airport transfer from Sandy, UT to SLC runs from $125 in a sedan or from $165 in an SUV, per car, each way.

The written fare may add waiting past the time it names, garage parking when the driver meets you inside, extra stops, or a gratuity it does not already include. For how the bands are drawn, see airport car service rates across Salt Lake County.

Ask for a written fare

Tell the office how many riders are going, how many checked bags they carry, which child seats you need, and whether a ramp or lift is needed. Your booking request goes to one car company, and its written fare comes back to you.

1 Where and when
Type a grid address such as 1300 E 2100 S and the nearest listed corner shows here with its from-figures.
Rides are arranged from the day after your written reply is due.
Optional; the company confirms the pickup time in its written fare.
Name the kinds in the note: rear-facing, forward-facing or booster.

2 Who the reply goes to
The kinds of child seats, a ramp or lift, a second stop, oversize bags.

Free quote, no obligation. The office asks one car company for its written fare; nothing is held for you until that company confirms the ride after your yes. A request sent while the phone is answered, at least 90 minutes before it closes, gets a written reply within 90 minutes; any other request gets one within the first hour after the phone next opens.
